How Do Our Dentists Whiten Your Smile?

We ensure the best results by identifying your unique needs.

Our experts take the time to properly choose the best whitening procedure for each patient to ensure the best results are achieved. We offer two types of treatment for teeth whitening:

Zoom! In-Office Whitening

The bleaching gel is applied to your teeth while your lips and gums are specially protected. Then a special, low-heat Zoom! Light activates the gel to penetrate the enamel and dentin in your teeth to remove deep stains and discoloration. The gel is applied for four 15-minute sessions. In about an hour, your teeth will be up to eight shades lighter.

At-Home Bleaching

Your dentist will make custom-fitting trays for patients who choose to continue their teeth whitening treatment at home. Maintain your shade or improve on the results you received in our office.

Will tooth whitening work well for all patients?

If a patient’s teeth have become discolored through the natural aging process, the prognosis for a more youthful smile is excellent. Teeth yellow in appearance (versus a gray color) generally respond more favorably to aesthetic whitening procedures. Almost everyone with natural tooth structure can expect to see significant results with the proper combination and duration of tooth whitening protocols.

Why won’t certain dental work be lightened by teeth whitening?

The majority of the materials used in dental care (including porcelain and composite bonding) will not be affected by the peroxide used to whiten the teeth. Bonding can always be modified to blend with the whitening results, and porcelain work may need to be remade to blend with your teeth adequately. Additionally, teeth with root canals may not be lightened by traditional methods and will require additional intervention treatments, such as internal bleaching.

Will white spots on the teeth be removed through the bleaching process?

No, but they will blend in with the surrounding tooth color to become less noticeable. In some instances, the white spots may be buffed out through enamel microabrasion techniques or troughed out and restored with a composite material to help blend.

My teeth have become discolored due to a prescription antibiotic. How long will the whitening process take?

Stained teeth following an antibiotic regimen with this medication may take longer, typically between 1-2 months, to reveal results.

What about tooth sensitivity?

Although your teeth may be sensitive after a bleaching treatment, the effects are mainly temporary. You can relieve the sensitivity by taking an anti-inflammatory medication, such as Ibuprofen, before your treatment. We recommend using a toothpaste for tooth sensitivity and avoid hot and cold foods for a day or two after treatment.
